It has been
revealed that one out of every ten South African is living with HIV virus with
the increase in the number of patients since 2002.

South Africa, in a 2015 report said that 6.9 million of its compatriots are
living with HIV in an estimated population of 54.95 million. Kwazulu Natal
(Durban area) and Limpopo remain the most hit Provinces in the country.

It however notes that infections were dropping, with the
incidence rate for people between the ages of 15 and 49, and that there has
also been a sharp drop in aids related deaths.
Statistics SA said the success in the reduction of the
spread of the virus is related to sensitization campaigns.
“Life expectancy in Africa had increased by 20 years since
the 1950s.In South Africa, average life expectancy in 2015 was 62.5 years, an
increase of 9.1 years since 2004. The average life expectancy for a South
African male was 60.6 years, while for a woman, was 64.2 years. Life expectancy is increasing. That is the
biggest demographic gain the world observes,” said the South African
Statistician General Pali Leholha.
