The South African Department of Health is denying claims and
reports that there is shortage of Antiretroviral (ARV) tablets.
Gauteng Department of health said in a statement January 8 2016, that though there were
shortages of the 300 mg tablets there was no cause for concern as smaller 150 mg
formulation of the drug were in stock.
The Department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona urged health workers
to consider dispensing a double dose of the smaller 150mg formulation in place
of the 300mg tablets.
Health officials blamed the rumors about the shortage of the
ARV on what they said were miscommunication between pharmacies and clinics,
urging patients to remain vigilant.
