JOURNALISTS SUE DOUALA HOSPT AND GENDARMES FOR ABUSE, HUMILIATION OF COLLEAGUE

JOURNALISTS PROTEST
Journalists in Cameroon’s economic capital Douala protested against what they described as a worst form of humiliation on one of their colleagues.

Led by the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union, CJTU, better known in French as Syndacat National des Journalistes du Cameroun,SNJC,

the embittered pressmen  dragged some staff and the management of the Gynaco-Obstetric Hospital, in Yassa,Douala, to the Ndokoti Court of First Instance,June 14 2016.

The lawsuit is prompted by the attitude of some hospital staff that on June 11 2016 stripped a journalist who was investigating on new born and premature babies. 

The journalist, Jacky T. who works with Sweet FM radio Station, Douala   dispatched by her newsroom also needed information on 

 the case of nursing mothers held hostage by the hospital for being unable to foot their hospital bills.

Sweet FM officials said the journalist who had identified herself at the entrance to the hospital was intercepted by one of the administrators.
On the premise that she was to be searched, the young reporter was stripped of her dresses and her genitals checked. This,  in the presence of some hospital staff.

The President of SNJC Denis Nkwebo said they are seeking redress from the humiliation and abuse of the dignity of a reporter, illegal detention and for trauma.

The trade union has also announced another case at the Military Tribunal in Bonanjo, against gendarmes on duty at the hospital, for not assisting the journalist who was in danger.

SNJC has also condemned repeated intimidation and assault on journalists in Cameroon.
