AMNESTY WANTS GOVT ACCOUNT FOR MISSING BH SUSPECTS

International Human Rights organisation, Amnesty International, AI, is demanding Cameroon government to account for the whereabouts of some 131 suspected Boko Haram militants arrested in the Far North Region of Cameroon.

The NGO in a statement on December 27said including the disappeared 131 persons some 25 others had died in custody in Maroua and a year after the government had not accounted for their whereabouts.

Alioune Tine: Wants Truth

Amnesty’s West and Central Africa Director, Alioune Tine had in September 2015 accused both Cameroon’s Defense Forces and BH extremist of rights violations.

Cameroon’s government spokesperson, Issa Tchiroma had described the Amnesty report as unfair arguing that the retaliation on BH insurgents fully respected the mission of the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting the insurgents in Nigeria, Benin, Chad and Niger.  He said the military tribunal is handling the case cited by Amnesty in view of establishing those responsible.
