ARTS AND PEOPLE – SHIRI ACHU Uses Her Painting to Build a Church House...Brandy Supports

God's House Needs a Roof
Cameroonian UK/USA based painter popularly known as Shiri Achu, would be using her original painting to mobilise resources in order to help build the Sunday School building for the Presbyterian  Church, Meforbe  in Santa, North West of Cameroon.

A release from her office indicates that there is to be an art exhibition of the paintings of the international artist from the 25th August to 8th of September 2017,

at the University of the West Indies, Regional Headquarters, Kingston, Jamaica. The event will run for two weeks with viewings from Monday - Saturday from 9am – 6:00pm.

The art exhibition dubbed, 38inPrint: Jamaica, has the campaign “RAISE THE ROOF,” running along with it, and would see the resources and finances generated from the raffle ticket sales of her original paintings, dedicated to the construction of the church edifice.

The worldwide eight weeks campaign will conclude on Friday the 8th of September. It would be streamed live so everyone who has bought raffle tickets,

can stream in to see if they are the lucky person who has won the original Shiri Achu art work – ‘Midnight Tradition,’ painted in 2009.

The painting is an acrylic on canvas painting, sized at 76cmX102cm and has been valued at $10,000 USD.

Shiri said she is expecting more than 1,800 raffle tickets shall be purchased to enable her raise some $10, 000 needed to complete the roof of the Sunday school church hall/house Each ticket is sold at just $7.

The painting that is to be won; 'Midnight tradition,' is based on an outdoor traditional wedding in Nigeria, West Africa. The spotlight captured in this romantic painting is the wedding couple dancing lovingly by moonlight.

The painting was selected as a Finalist for the Clifton’s Art Prize 2012, in Adelaide/Australia. The painting also features on page 65 of the International contemporary Masters volume VII.

There will also be 3 runner-up winners, winning signed limited edition prints of ‘Midnight Tradition,’ and 4 more people winning a combination prize. All 8 “RAISE THE ROOF” winners will be selected at the closing of the event.

She said she engaged her original painting in the raffle, because it is always worthy to give back to God. “I decided that I should try to raise some money for a great cause. 

I was informed about the need of a roof for the church and so I took it as a duty to see the project realized. Being an architect and loving the Lord, I feel extremely passionate about the campaign. It is my own way of giving back to God,” she explained. 

Shiri has received the award of ‘The best artist’ in Brent, London and has been fortunate to have exhibited in various exciting places/events/cities. 

These include, The Commonwealth Secretariat, The Houses of Parliament and The Olympic African Village. She has displayed her artistic prowess in cities including Lisbon, Barcelona, Douala, Chiang Mai, Douala, Washington DC, Australia to name a few.

She has also, recently been nominated as TOP 10 ARTIST by the renowned Art Critic, Lennox Campello for the show Artomatic 2016, in Washington DC, where thousands of artists come together to exhibit their works.

Grammy Award-winning singer and actress, Brandy, supports the “RAISE THE ROOF” campaign. 

Blick Bassy, Dave Moktoi, CNN presenter Tom Foreman and Cameroonian Sam Fan Thomas also gave their support and blessings to the initiative.
