A lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA is
very angry with US State Department and wants it to revise its travel warning
on Cameroon.
DR NJABO : WE ARE NOT THAT 'UNSAFE' |
In a statement to compatriots, Dr. Kevin Y. Njabo accused his University’s
authorities of frustrating efforts to encourage students to be part of a yearly
travel abroad study programme on Tropical Ecology and Conservation Biology.
University
of California authorities are quoted as citing possible risks on American
students in Cameroon. He picked holes with the State Department's warnings that touch
the Northern and Eastern parts of country.
“The Boko Haram insurgents are based in Northern Nigeria and spill
over into Northern Cameroon.
US PRESIDENT OBAMA : SERIOUSLY ? |
So the travel advisory should be specific to the
said regions as was done recently in France and Israel. People travelling
to Douala, Yaounde, Limbe, in Cameroon should not be affected as we do not
expect people staying in New York to be affected by the recent San Bernandino
bombings in Southern California, “he argued
on February 2.
The Tropical Ecology and Conservation Biology Don said a blanket
State Department warning for Cameroon as a country has very negative effects on
the image, economy and other aspects of living. “This is not fair at all. I am therefore
calling on the Cameroonian community to bring this to the attention of the
State Department, “he said.
