16 SOUTHERN CAMEROONS ACTIVISTS INCLUDING A BLIND, ARRESTED IN BUEA

Some 16 Southern Cameroons activists were on July 17 2016, arrested by security forces in Buea, South West Region. The arrested activists, including a blind man identified as  Mokube Alus Ngoe,  are currently been detained at three different locations. The judicial police, the Buea Central, and the Molyko police stations respectively,  all in Buea Sub Division.

Concordant reports say the activists who had converged on Buea, came in from Nkambe,Kumba, Njinikom, Mamfe, Kumbo, Bangem and Bamenda. It remains unclear under what circumstances the police swooped on them.

The defense council for the activists who are advocating for the  independence of Ambazonia (former UN Trust territory of Southern Cameroons under United Kingdom) said , he faced enormous challenges

visiting his clients who he barely managed to give the food. Barrister Shufai Blaise Berinyuy, July 20, 2016 said he has not been informed of the charges against the activists. “Out of the 16 only 15 of them have been brought to court. They are however high spirited,” added Barrister Shufai Blaise Berinyuy.


A security source in Buea who declined to be named, said the activists were arrested on instructions from Yaoundé, without explaining further.  

The activists in detention include, Shey Alfred Sembe,Fokum Andrew ,Moto James,Njousi Abang David ,Chief Ekane Ivoson Maths,Bissong Mathias Arrey, Tabot James Arrey,Tebot Titanji Christian ,Mokube Alus Ngoe (blind),Nke Valentine,Tonjoh Peter Fehbi,Asoh Cletus ,Mbua Richard,Check Nyah.
